Manhattan’s in-home personal training, since 2002.
We bring a certified, carefully-matched trainer to your door — so the workout fits your life, your space, and your goals. No membership. No commute. No compromise on who trains you.
Great training shouldn’t depend on a great gym.
Type A Training was founded on a simple idea: the thing that actually changes your body isn’t the equipment or the address — it’s the right trainer, showing up consistently, with a plan built around you.
For more than two decades, we’ve delivered exactly that across Manhattan — in apartments, private residences, and building gyms from the Upper East Side to Battery Park. We started in 2002 because the standard options forced a choice no one should have to make: settle for a big-box gym and a rotating cast of trainers, or pay a premium for something that still didn’t fit your schedule.
So we built the alternative. One that comes to you, matches you deliberately with a specialist rather than whoever’s available, and holds every trainer to a standard most studios never reach. The result is a service that feels less like a gym membership and more like having a genuine expert in your corner.
“Christina is an INCREDIBLE trainer. As someone who has worked with trainers in the past, she is as good as it gets. I haven’t been able to train for a few months due to work, but can’t wait to reconnect with her ASAP. She is great at giving health and wellness advice, provides fun and challenging workouts, and motivates me through the 45 minutes I would usually find unenjoyable. Definitely recommend her to anyone and everyone.”
Built by a trainer, not a franchise.
I’ve spent over 25 years training New Yorkers — certified since 1998, and running Type A Training hands-on since I founded it in 2002. In all that time, one thing hasn’t changed: the people who get lasting results aren’t the ones with the fanciest equipment. They’re the ones with a trainer who actually knows them.
That’s why I still personally interview, assess, and approve every trainer before they ever work with a client. When you invite someone into your home, you deserve complete peace of mind — verified certifications, background checks, real professionalism. Your safety isn’t just important to me; it’s non-negotiable. I built this company, and I’m still the one protecting the standard.
Premium isn’t the price. It’s the standard.
Matched, not assigned
You’re paired with a specialist chosen for your goals, body, and experience level — not handed whoever happens to be free. The right fit is the whole point.
Trained in your space
Your home, your building’s gym, your schedule. We bring the expertise and the plan; you skip the membership, the commute, and the crowds entirely.
Held to a real standard
Every trainer clears a seven-step vetting process. Fewer than one in ten applicants makes it — because who trains you is the one thing we won’t compromise on.
How a trainer earns the Type A name.
Fewer than one in ten applicants is hired. Every trainer who works with you has cleared a seven-step vetting process before they ever reach your door.
- 1Credential verification — nationally accredited certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM, or ISSA) confirmed at the source.
- 250-state background check — run on every trainer, no exceptions.
- 3CPR / AED certification — current and verified.
- 4In-person skills assessment — we watch them coach before anyone hires them.
- 5Reference & experience review — real client history, checked.
- 6Professionalism & fit screening — the intangibles that make a great in-home trainer.
- 7Ongoing standards — the bar doesn’t drop after hiring; it’s held for as long as they wear the name.
“I was looking for a way to break up my boring routine in the gym, so I found Nathaniel through my apartment’s community website. He does in-home training, which is extra convenient for both of us since we live in the same building and we just meet up in our downstairs gym. During our 45-minute sessions, we switch it up so many times that it goes by soo quickly! I love how he incorporates boxing into the routine too, since it helps me get some frustration out as well. He also does 30-minute sessions, but I always love to get that extra bit in as much as i can. Highly recommended in every way!”
Recognized in New York since 2004.
New York Magazine named Type A Training the city’s best at-home trainer two decades ago — and we’re still called on as experts today.
“If you don’t have time to go to the gym, then have the gym come to you… a heart-thumping 45-minute workout combining Pilates, boxing, and yoga.”
